Sixty life insurance companies in China got CNY 956 billion original premiums in 2011, compared with CNY 1.05 trillion original premiums in 2010, according to latest statistics from China Insurance Regulatory Commission.
Of the top six life insurers by market share, China life insurance Co., China Pacific life insurance Co. and New China Life Insurance saw their market share increase respectively while Ping An Life Insurance Co., Taikang Life Insurance Co. and PICC Life Insurance Co. had smaller market share last year.
China Life Insurance, which reaped CNY 318.2 billion original premiums in 2011, remained to be the largest life insurer in China by a 33.28% market share.

I received a tweet from @stnickmedia with a link to the article titled “Executives Fail to Focus on Social Media Marketing Strategy” http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1008503. Some of the comments about the article took issue with the fact that leaders “still weren’t getting it”. I have a different opinion. I can completely understand why social media marketing strategies are not a current priority with many at the senior level. I don’t believe that social media efforts have “earned” their attention yet, but, I think they will as the use of social information moves from marketing into operations and begins to increase revenue and decrease costs.

Hartford Life just introduced Issue First, a new way to provide immediate life insurance protection. Get this . . . the policy is issued before underwriting. The upper limit on face value and age is $2 million and 66, respectively, so they are not just targeting small policies or young insurers. The Hartford estimates that on average it takes 48 days to issue a permanent policy; thats almost two months! But with Issue First, the policy is issued in as little as five days if the answers to eight medical questions meet the eligibility requirements. The Hartfords agents must be loving this.
