The spending cuts announced by George Osborne could lead to a decrease in the safety of UK motorcyclists, warns Swinton Bikes .
The insurer, which specialises in bike insurance, says the 20 per cent cut in state funding for the police may result in a reduced number of road safety schemes in place. Some of the schemes which are likely to be affected are Wheels to Work and Bikesafe. This in turn could lead to an increase in the number of collisions and other accidents and would lead to higher levels of road deaths and injuries .
In addition, the UK government plans to cut funding for road maintenance which no doubt would effect the quality of pavements and consequently there would be an increased number of accidents and damages to transport.
Commenting on the coming cuts, Mr. Aronin of Swinton Bikes said: “Although the company understands that the cuts in funding are a necessity, it is a shame that safety of UK motorcyclists is being affected by them.”
